REIMAGINING A LIVE-ACTION FILM
STAS MAREEVLIVE ACTION · GENAI
VFX · POST-PRODUCTION
An ongoing hybrid filmmaking experiment built from one of my completed live-action films.
The original actors, performances, directing, editing and dramatic structure remain the foundation. The surrounding cinematic universe is being rebuilt through generative production design, AI-assisted VFX and post-production.
The goal is not to replace live-action filmmaking, but to explore how far an existing film can be visually transformed while preserving the human performance and the original directing decisions underneath.
ORIGINAL → REIMAGINED
The same characters. The same performances. A completely different world.
Selected scenes from the original film are reworked into a grounded cyberpunk universe, transforming environments, architecture, costumes, vehicles, props, technology, lighting and atmosphere while maintaining continuity with the original live-action material.

IN MOTION
Selected hybrid sequences
These sequences explore how generative tools can be integrated into an already-directed live-action film without losing performance, camera logic or dramatic intent.

BEHIND THE TRANSFORMATION
Hybrid filmmaking workflow
Live-action foundation
The original film provides actor performance, blocking, camera movement, editing rhythm and dramatic structure.
Visual development
Each sequence is reinterpreted through new production design, environments, architecture, technology, wardrobe and atmosphere.
Performance preservation
Actor identity, expression, body language and emotional continuity remain central as the visual context changes.
Generative design & VFX
GenAI extends production design and visual effects—rebuilding locations and expanding the scale of the cinematic world.
Motion & continuity
Generated material follows the original camera language, movement, screen direction, timing and shot-to-shot logic.
Post-production
Editing, compositing, stabilization, frame repair, conform, color and sound bring the transformed material back into one film.
The technology changes. The directing principles do not.
The central question
How far can you transform the visual universe of an existing film without losing the performance, emotion and directing decisions that made the original scene work?
HANDICAP 2.0 is an ongoing exploration of that question.
